Light the Way is the second book in The Union Trilogy. Set in a dystopian future The Union Trilogy is about death and coming to terms with loss, the abuse of power, discrimination and the fear of the unknown. This is one of my favorite series. I love that the author contacted me again to read and review Light the way. If you have not read my review for Blinded by the light you can check that out here.
I loved reading this book. The dystopian setting for this story was written well. I was happy to see that MaryAnn has grown some from the first book. It still is a lot for her take and to understand but she does try. This story is written from two POVs but it does not take away from the main character.
Peter is still the fun witty guy that I loved from the first one. He and Daryl are great together and are more like brothers. The relationship that Peter has with MaryAnn is sweet. She is like his little sister. There was one part in the book between Peter, MaryAnn, and the Watch.I don't want to spoil it but you can see the influence that MaryAnn has on him. There were a tons of others but that was my favorite one.
The journey for the characters was a big risk. The consequences were understood but for what they all believed in it was worth it to them. The plot in this story was good and it had me guessing the whole way. I could really see this trilogy becoming a movie.
Overall I love this series and I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Light the Way Book 2 Joe Kipling 9781909776128 Books Reviews
2014 was a year for finding new authors and new favourite books. Joe Kipling’s Blinded By The Light was an amazing dystopian fantasy that blew me away, so needless to say, I have been eager for the release of book 2, Light The Way.
I was happy to see that MaryAnn (the protagonist) has grown through her experiences. In the first book, she is quite spoilt and oblivious to the suffering of others, however that is through ignorance and not lack of care. Book two introduces us to a still vulnerable but stronger and braver MaryAnn. As we continue to follow her story and her struggle to decide whether she belongs in The union or not, we are introduced to some likeable, new characters, such as the out-spoken Pink-haired Flo and Eric the bully with a heart. This dystopian world and all its characters is expertly constructed and drew me in just as book one did and I had to retreat to my reading cave, until I had finished.
I loved book one and sometimes a second book in a series can be a bit of a let-down after the initial scene setting of the first. This book surpassed my expectations, had me guessing all the way through and left me wanting to know more. It also has me asking, will Peter and MaryAnn ever realise they have feeling for each other?
This needs to be the next Hollywood Blockbuster from a book!
I can’t wait for book 3 but I’ll also be very sad when the trilogy ends. Can’t wait to see what Joe Kipling dreams up next.
4.5 on my blog. The book gets right into the action aided by a new POV character. This new character who travels to a new, and important, location within the story is what keeps this dystopian clear of second book syndrome. Don't worry, we still fall back into Maryann's POV and return to my favorite location from Blinded by the Light. What I love about these books is we also get to know the characters as they celebrate holidays and participate in entertainments. I think this fleshes out the characters more because we see who they are when they are relaxed, too. This makes the secondary characters more 3-D also. And there is a dog. Dogs always make a story better! There was no major cliffhanger, and thank goodness because Joe takes her sweet time writing her books. I will let her slide though because when they are finished they are superb. Warning those of you who need gobs of dripping romance in your YA, there is zero, so be forewarned. If you know me at all you will know this story got extra points from me for it! I received an eARC from the publisher in return for an honest review.
